A New Venture

Tuesday 10 August 2010 at 3:14 pm I do not know if all of you know, but Bykarenklassen has another part of the business to Spoons Cafe and that is Spoons Catering.  We just did a wonderful wedding for 350 people and was beautiful.  Well, let me tell you about hauling everything you need for a 350 person wedding.  It is alot of hauling !!!!  For awhile I have know that the cafe kitchen was just getting to small and I have a vision for a place to hold events that is appitizing to the eye as well as the pallet.  Well, I have now signed a lease for a 4500 square foot former resteraunt and am in the middle of tearing it apart to create "Gather".  Stay tuned for more info.

Wicked - The wicked witch is not really Wicked !!

Monday 07 June 2010 at 10:36 am

Last weekend I went to see the musical Wicked.  I did not know much about the story except that it was about the Good Witch and the Bad Witch before the Wizard of OZ.  I have been thinking about the play since and how all this time since the first time I saw the Wizard of Oz how scary and mean I believed the Wicked Witch was.

It is interesting what I learned from the show is going parallel to what I am constantly working on in my own life.  How what I believe is the truth based on what other say is not necessarily the truth.  How I need not make judgment on anybody for things that they do because I have no idea what they are here to experience and it really is none of my business.  How I have enough to do just trying to take care of myself.  I am a legacy of my experiences and how I have choices everyday to change my behavior to be more supportive of what I am here to do and be.  So the Wicked Witch was really not wicked, I wonder what other lies I have been telling myself that are not true?   And the list begins...

Going Junkin ....

Friday 14 May 2010 at 2:12 pm Well, I am headed out tomorrow with a decorator/friend of mine, Marcie, to a show in Houston that alot of people I buy my junk from are going to be at.  I hope that they are not offeneded by me calling all their finds junk, but I say it in the most loving way.  It has been a few months since my Round Top adventure and I start getting the need to get out there and see what is going on.   We are making a quick stop in Houston at the show then moving on into Austin and Johnson City.  Mud boots, packed, check...good to go...On the Road again..

Putting on my creative thinking cap

Friday 09 April 2010 at 4:57 pm I am ask alot of times where do I get my ideas and actually most of my best ideas come from my customers.  I wish I could take credit for some of these great ideas like the you tube video we have posted showing the "three year old's pancake pajama party".  How much fun the kids and grown ups had coming to Spoons Garage in their PJ's and getting loaded up on sugar.  I got a call today from a lady that has a group that gets together once a month for dinner and wanted to know if they could have dinner here and then do something creative..Hmmm, I thought... So I told her to give me a few days to think about it and I thanked her for giving me that oppurtunity to create a class that I will then be able to offer to others.  Any ideas, anybody of what you would like to see me give classes on here at Spoons?  I am open to suggestions.... Bring them on...

The Creative Habit - Routines

Monday 05 April 2010 at 5:15 pm

A while back I picked up a book at half price book's called "The Creative Habit" by Tywla Tharp.  In the book she discusses how important it is to create the habit's in your day to day life, that to me seem like routines, so you can be creative.  I have noticed that I really operate so much better, with more energy, ideas, calmness if I stick to some type of routine in my days.  Like getting up the same time every morning, which I have gotten out of the habit of.  My days just flow better.  I love what Twyla says about being creative - "Being creative is not a once-in-a-while sort of thing.  Being creative is an everyday thing, a job with its own routines.  I really like that.

Getting a Routine

Thursday 25 March 2010 at 11:28 am As much as I like the choices I have every day on how and what to spend my time on, I have come to realize that my body and mind really function so much better with a routine.  I have more energy and focus during the day if I get up between 6:00 - 6:30, have coffee, journal three pages and a few days a week walk.  Last week and for the past few weeks I had not been doing this and just felt out of balance. I mentioned this to my Life Coach (Charlie) and said that I was aware of this and I knew what I needed to do.   She suggested that I change my language from "needed to do" to I have the resources to use... now let me try to explain that .... Being Spoiled in Mexico

Tuesday 16 March 2010 at 10:52 am

So, the first morning, in Tzintzuntzan at Victoria's casa I wake up to birds chirping and fresh orange juice that she had just squeezed from the oranges she got off her trees in her yard.. shut the door... The fruit and food here is so amazing and I can not wait to share all of this with those of you that join me on the 1st Traveling Spoons trip for day of the dead.  I am putting the final touches on the information and will send out a constant contact when it is on the web.  This first day we went to see one of the award winning artist that makes the Katrina's that are the lady and men statues with skeleton faces.  Now the last trip I was down here I bought some Katrina's but I have never seen anything like these.  He actually sold me ones that were already sold because I was hyperventilating at how amazing these were.  After visiting with him, an we do have video that we are working on to get loaded, this art has been passed on for generations.  My Katrina's should be here next week and I will be sure to get the pictures up.  One of the things that I found so interesting in visiting these artist studios is that they work with such minimal tools.  They were all sitting almost on the floor with no light creating.

I find myself so often making excuses and waiting to do things until I have the perfect surroundings, tools, ingredients the list goes on instead of just creating.  It is like writing in this blog or writing in general.   The excuses start.   I am going to commit to being very conscious and setting the intention of knowing when those excuses start.   One thing I know for sure is when I set an intention I better be ready because the universe really starts showing me what I have as for, like it or not.

And the journey begins....

Thursday 11 March 2010 at 2:50 pm

As most of you know Denise and I just got from Mexico last week and I am just now recovering enough to sit down and tell you some about it.  Today I am going to share with you the drive down from Mexico City to the town of Tzintzuntzan....

So, Denise and I hit Mexico City and it is a beautiful day.  Pick up rent car make a minor detour thru the middle of Mexico City.... then headed towards Morelia.  As we were coming out of Mexico City we looked at each other and thought where are we?  All of a sudden we were in the middle of this amazing architecture, high end retail, amazing five star hotels.  Come to find out it is a new suburb called "Santa Fe" that actually was an old land fill.

The Mexican tollways are amazing roads and the country side even more spectacular.  You can not say you have been to Mexico unless you stop and eat at the La Marqueza, photos coming - will show how Denise decided to do her part in helping ladies flag in more business. The food is amazing and so fresh.... I am so glad that I took the time to drive thru Mexico.  I have always felt safe in Mexico and I think that it is a shame that all we hear is the bad things that go on.  The people are amazing and so grateful for us to be there.

The El Camino Room is revved up and running !!!

Friday 19 February 2010 at 2:14 pm

New to Spoons and already booking is "The El Camino Room".  So many people ask me how why we named it  "The El Camino Room"?  It seems like that when I mention the name "El Camino" everybody smiles and then tells me a very funny story.

Tomorrow morning "The El Camino room is hosting a 3 year olds, kids and parents,  pancake decorating  pajama birthday party.  Complete with extra large pancakes, whip cream, chocolate chips, sprinkles and lots of syrup.  Yummy, Yummy !!!

Then at 4:30 we have a bus of 40 big kids (most well beyond the legal drinking age)  loading up on a big bus, to go to the professional bull rodeo at the new cowboy stadium..Can you say get along little Doggie ! Starting with a Salsa bar and beverages, then herding up and heading out in all of our best bull riding attire (pictures sure to follow)

At 5:30, "The El Camino Room" a group of High School Students will be having a catered dinner before attending MORP...

Then around 9:30 an after party for the wonderfully funny "4 Funny Females" that are performing at the MPAC..

So as you can see almost anything goes in "The El Camino Room" ...which is one of the memories I have about the El Camino in my past ....What about you?  Send me yours.  I would love to hear them.
